Uh Oh! "Domain Already Exists" in HubSpot? Let's Fix It
Ever hit a wall when trying to launch your shiny new website in HubSpot? Imagine this: you've just bought a domain, connected it to HubSpot, and then… BAM! Error message: "Website cannot be published because domain already exists." Frustrating, right? That's exactly what happened to MDlamini6 in the HubSpot Community. The Problem: Domain Already Exists
how do i solve this problem, it says my domain already exists but i just bought it on namecheap, please help, cant publish my website
The Solution: Finding the Conflicting Page
Jonathan_Vaz in the HubSpot Community came to the rescue with a spot-on diagnosis. The error message, while mentioning the domain, often *isn't* about the domain connection itself. It usually means another page or redirect within HubSpot is already using that specific URL as its homepage. Here's Jonathan_Vaz's advice:The Answer: Check Your Website Pages
Hey @MDlamini6,
Based on the error shown in the screenshot its does not seem like a domain issue. I assume you are attempting to publish this page as your Homepage but another page or redirect inside HubSpot has already claimed that spot. Go to Content and then Website Pages and in the search bar, type exactly: domain:www.yourdomainname.website/
This should show whatever page is currently holding that URL. Once you find the conflicting page, you must either delete it permanently or change its URL slug. There are some great instructions at this community article that I would recommend referring to while troubleshooting this issue.
Step-by-Step: How to Find and Fix the Conflict
1. **Head to Website Pages:** In your HubSpot portal, go to "Content" and then "Website Pages." 2. **Use the Search Bar:** In the search bar, typedomain:www.yourdomainname.website/ (replace `www.yourdomainname.website` with your actual domain).
3. **Identify the Culprit:** This search should reveal the page that's currently using the root URL (/).
4. **Take Action:** You have two options:
* **Delete the Conflicting Page:** If the page isn't important, you can permanently delete it.
* **Change the URL Slug:** Edit the page and change its URL slug to something other than `/`. For example, you could change it to `/homepage` or `/old-homepage`.
5. **Publish Your Website:** Once you've resolved the conflict, try publishing your website again. It should work this time!
